The Problem
There was a need for a fictitious character and costume to be created for Tim Burton Productions. It was essential for the character and costume to stay true to Tim Burton's style.
Target Audience & Objective
The target audience are those interested in potential characters that could appear in a Tim Burton film. The objective was to create a character wearing a costume in a relevant environment that looked as though it was created with clay.
Timeline
This project was created in the span of three weeks.
Meet the Character
Quimby Ninnysquire is an introverted, awkward, and shy boy who is 17 years old. Coming from an outgoing and loud family, he an outsider in his own community. However, he is close with his older sister, which you can see in his clothing as he wear feminine-looking shoes that are handed down to him. His family does not necessarily care for his well-being or what clothes he wears, which is reflected in his tattered clothing material.
Environmental Development
Quimby is the main character in this story and is on a quest. The setting he would need to be placed in required a ghostly feeling full of mystery and wonder to encourage him to keep moving forward on his journey. Wherever he was, he would need to appear as though he were uncomfortable in his own skin and unsure of himself.
Costume Development
Three separate costumes were created to display Quimby's character in an effective manner. Ultimately, it was decided that a combination of each costume would work best for Quimby's character.
Action Sketches
Sketches & Silhouettes
Nine unique characters with different personalities were created as possible protagonists for this story.
References & Concept Development
Inspiration was taken from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
